Are roll-down screens storm rated?

Nu Code Shutters offers separate Magnatrack® systems for everyday insect and solar protection, as well as Magnatrack® Defender Hurricane Screens specifically designed and tested for hurricane protection. Defender Hurricane Screens are tested to large-missile impact standards and must be properly sized and installed according to the applicable product approval. The hurricane fabric, tracks, attachment hardware, and installation work together as a complete system to provide protection from hurricane-force winds and windborne debris.

What happens if the power is out during a storm?

All Magnatrack® screen systems installed by Nu Code Shutters are motorized. Our Magnatrack® Defender Hurricane Screens can be ordered with an optional manual override, allowing the screen to be operated manually if utility power is unavailable. This feature is available at an additional cost and must be selected when the system is purchased. Many South Louisiana homeowners also have whole-home generators that keep their screens operational during power outages. For homes with portable generators, the screens are typically plugged into a nearby attic outlet. In an emergency, the screen can be unplugged from the outlet and plugged into an extension cord leading to the generator. If maintaining operation during a power outage is important to you, we'll help you determine whether a manual override or a backup power solution is the best option for your home.
